Ve Starém zákoně i v mýtech národů je odkazováno na «velkou potopu», na potopu světa. V tomto mytickém obraze byl zaznamenán — jak z hlediska dějin Země, tak z hlediska dějin vědomí — zánik bájného kontinentu Atlantidy na sklonku atlantské doby, geologicky *terciér* a *[[Quartär|kvartér]]*. Im Alten Testament sowie in den Mythen der Völker wird auf die «große Flut», auf die Sintflut, verwiesen. In diesem mythischen Bild wurde der Untergang des sagenumwobenen Kontinents Atlantis am Ende der atlantischen Periode – geologisch ''Tertiär'' und ''Quartär''– sowohl erd- wie bewusstseinsgeschichtlich festgehalten. In this mythic image, the passing of the legendary continent of Atlantis at the end of the Atlantean period — geologically the *Tertiary* and *Quaternary* — was recorded both in terms of the history of the Earth and of consciousness.
