Anders das Bauchfell, das gleichsam als ein «Himmelsgewölbe» die Bauchhöhle auskleidete, alle Bauchorgane und so auch kunstvoll die Dünndarmschlingen umschloss und in Sinnesbeziehung zur verborgenen Verdauungstätigkeit stand, jetzt ist es nach außen gekehrt. Die beschriebene Doppellamelle bzw. -serosa des Gekröses entfaltet jetzt in neuer Art eine nach außen und nach innen gerichtete Sinnestätigkeit. Nach innen ist diese durch die ''Serosa'' der nach innen gekehrten Lamelle auf ein Lebensgeschehen gerichtet, das in den Blütenköpfchen des Löwenzahns einen evolutiven Höhepunkt erreicht hat, während die ''Serosa'' der nach außen gekehrten Lamelle sich den Kräften öffnet, die von Kosmos und Erde von außen einstrahlen. So gesehen, spaltet sich die einheitliche Sinnesfunktion des Rindgekröses in eine polare Doppelfunktion auf. Unberührt davon bleiben die Bindegewebsseiten der beiden Lamellen; sie haften weiter aneinander und bilden gleichsam das Bindeglied zwischen den polaren Wahrnehmungssphären.

Different the case of the peritoneum, which had lined the abdominal cavity like a kind of «Himmelsgewölbe» (vault of heaven), enclosing all the abdominal organs — and so artfully the loops of the small intestine as well — standing in sense-relation to the hidden activity of digestion: now it is turned outward. The double lamella, or double serosa, of the mesentery described above now unfolds in a new way a sense-activity directed both outward and inward. Inward, this activity is directed — through the serosa of the inward-turned lamella — toward a life-activity that has reached an evolutive culmination in the flower heads of the dandelion, while the serosa of the outward-turned lamella opens itself to the forces that ray in from cosmos and earth from without. Seen in this way, the unified sense-function of the bovine mesentery divides into a polar double function. Untouched by this remain the connective-tissue sides of the two lamellae; they continue to adhere to one another and form, as it were, the connecting link between the two polar spheres of perception.
