Solny charakter wydzielin ptactwa domowego odpowiada jego wyraźnie zaznaczonej naturze głowowo-nerwowo-zmysłowej, którą dodatkowo podkreśla niemal pionowa postawa tych biegaczy w osi: głowa, wyprostowana szyja, pierś i nogi. Szczególne osiągnięcia przemiany materii nie spływają więc, jak u przeżuwaczy, w strumień trawienny, lecz wchodzą w przyrost masy ciała (mięso) i w reprodukcję (jaja).
