V jednom se vyžívá stranou člověka, aktivní v noci, jako její divocí příbuzní. S napětím všech smyslů následuje své lovecké instinkty, plíží se svými cestami, číhá na kořist a zmocňuje se jí mohutným skokem. Hlodavci, jako myši a krysy, jsou její preferovanou potravou, bohužel také ptáci, jako ti, co hnízdí na zemi, v nízkých větvích, nebo vlaštovky, které ve dne létají příliš nízko nad zemí a které si ležérně rychle vystřelenou tlapkou zajistí jako jistou kořist. Svůj druhý život tráví tím, že vyhledává domácnost člověka jako své místo ke spánku, předouc se lísá ke členům rodiny, hravě těší děti a tímto způsobem se doporučuje další péči o potravu. Pak v noci opět nastává odchod do druhého života. A opět je to emocionalita člověka, která, scestně vedena, činí z kočky pouhé domácí a mazlivé zvíře.

In dem einen lebt sie sich abseits des Menschen nachtaktiv aus, wie ihre wilden Artgenossen. In Anspannung aller Sinne folgt sie ihren Jagdinstinkten, schleicht ihrer Wege, lauert ihrer Beute auf und ergreift sie in mächtigem Sprung. Nager, wie Mäuse und Ratten, sind ihre bevorzugte Nahrung, leider auch Vögel, wie die Bodenbrüter, im niederen Geäst nistende, oder bei Tag zu niedrig über den Boden dahin schießende Schwalben, die sie lässig mit emporschnellender Pfote sich zur sicheren Beute macht. Dans l'une, il s'épanouit loin de l'homme à la faveur de la nuit, comme ses congénères sauvages. Tous ses sens en alerte, il suit ses instincts de chasseur, rôde à sa guise, guette sa proie et la saisit d'un bond prodigieux. Les rongeurs — souris et rats — constituent sa nourriture de prédilection, malheureusement aussi les oiseaux : les nicheurs au sol, ceux qui nichent dans les branches basses, ou les hirondelles qui rasent trop bas le sol en plein jour, dont il fait aisément sa proie d'une patte lancée vers le haut.  V Polnisch (pl)Wyraz istoty domowego kota jest zupełnie inny. Zdaje się on ewolucyjnie głębiej popaść w dzikość. Żyje niejako dwoma życiami. W jednym wyżywa się z dala od człowieka, aktywny nocą, jak jego dzicy pobratymcy. Wytężając wszystkie zmysły, podąża za instynktami łowieckimi, skrada się swoimi ścieżkami, czai się na zdobycz i chwyta ją potężnym skokiem. Gryzonie — myszy i szczury — to jego ulubiony pokarm, niestety również ptaki: naziemne ptaki lęgowe, gnieżdżące się w niskich gałęziach lub przelatujące za dnia zbyt nisko nad ziemią jaskółki, które chwyta niedbale szybkim uderzeniem wyciągniętej łapy. Drugie życie spędza, szukając domowego zacisza człowieka jako swojego miejsca snu, mrurkując łasząc się do członków rodziny, bawiąc dzieci i tym sposobem polecając się tej formie dalszej troski o wyżywienie. A potem znów nocą wyrusza w to inne życie. Znowu to emocjonalność człowieka, która — sprowadzona na manowce — czyni z kota zwykłe zwierzątko domowe do głaskania.
