Strana střevní stěny obrácená k nitru těla, serosa, je inervována. Náleží pobřišnici (*Peritoneum*), která vystýlá břišní dutinu jaksi jako «vnitřní nebe» — a tím reprezentuje smyslově-nervový čili vnímavostní pól střevních stěn. Uprostřed se vřazuje — tvoříc střed — kruhová svalová vrstva, která rytmicky zajišťuje mimo jiné peristaltické pohyby. Diese Grenzhäute sind Organe, die im Vergleich zur leiblichen Außenhaut einen umgestülpten Aufbau aufweisen: Die mächtig ausgebildeten Schleimhäute sind nach außen, nach dem Futterstrom hin gekehrt; sie sind im höchsten Grade stoffwechselaktiv im Hinblick auf den Abbau des Futters und auf die Absorption der ihrer Fremdheit entkleideten Substanzen. Die nach dem Leibesinnern zugekehrte Seite der Darmhaut, die Serosa, ist innerviert. The side of the intestinal wall turned toward the body's interior — the serosa — is innervated. It belongs to the peritoneum, which lines the abdominal cavity rather like an "inner sky" and thereby represents the sense-nerve or perceptive pole of the intestinal walls. Between the two, forming the middle, a circular muscle layer articulates itself, which rhythmically provides, among other things, for the peristaltic movements. It is the soul-nature of the cow itself that is active in the three members of the digestive membranes — simultaneously perceiving the process and letting it sound together into the wholeness of the bodily functions.
