This individuation takes place in the soil, in the balancing middle of the heights and depths, in the manner of a kind of heart-and-lung function. It manifests in the form of the plant in the vertically upward-striving shoot and the taproot growing into the depths, as well as in the horizontally spreading leaf- and fine-root-work. Along the path of individuation, every site on earth first develops into an «Organismus im Naturwachstum» (organism in natural growth). Even in this, the threefoldness of head pole beneath the earth, metabolic pole above the earth, and the soil articulating itself between them is already laid in. Through idea and will — that is, through the skillful hand of the human being — this individuation advances further to the shaping-out of the «landwirtschaftlichen Individualität» (farm individuality). The human being, himself a becoming one, makes it into a becoming one. This aim — to plant the principle of development into the soil, into the middle of the farm individuality — will henceforth be the task of agriculture. The means to this end is manuring, and specifically that manuring which has its origin in the spirit of the human being. What is meant are the biodynamic preparations, as it were
