The third in alliance with yarrow and chamomile, stinging nettle shows in its characterful outward form scarcely any family resemblance to them — yet shows a marked kinship in the manner of its dealings with potassium, calcium, and additionally iron. The sulphur process penetrates powerfully from above through the whole plant. It gives the stinging nettle the capacity to lift these substances out of their earthly-inorganic nature and to incorporate them into its life processes. Rudolf Steiner names it «die größte Wohltäterin des Pflanzenwachstums […] Die Brennnessel ist wirklich ein Allerweltskerl, die kann ungeheuer viel […] außerdem, dass die Brennnessel Kali und Kalzium in ihren Strahlungen und Strömungen fortführt, außerdem hat die Brennnessel noch eine Art Eisenstrahlungen, die fast so günstig sind dem Laufe der Natur wie unsere eigenen Eisenstrahlungen im Blute. Die Brennnessel verdient es eigentlich durch ihre Güte gar nicht, dass sie da draußen oftmals so verachtet in der Natur wächst. Sie müsste eigentlich dem Menschen ums Herz herum wachsen, denn sie ist wirklich in der Natur draußen in ihrer großartigen Innenwirkung, ihrer inneren Organisation eigentlich ähnlich demjenigen, was das Herz im menschlichen Organismus ist» ("the greatest benefactress of plant growth [...] The stinging nettle is truly a Jack-of-all-trades, it can do an immense amount [...] beyond the fact that the stinging nettle carries potash and calcium in its radiations and streamings, the stinging nettle has in addition a kind of iron radiations, almost as favourable to the course of nature as our own iron radiations in the blood. The stinging nettle does not really deserve, by virtue of its goodness, to grow out there so often despised in nature. It ought really to grow around the human heart, for out there in nature it is in its magnificent inward working, its inner organisation, truly akin to what the heart is in the human organism") (Figure 28, p. 383).
