The thinking beholding of the transformation of forms in the leaf sequence illuminates the dullness of smell- and taste-perception. For thinking, the form of the leaf is the point of reference, standing at first as an object in its own right. But one comes to see that the leaf now under observation, in its very forming, already presupposes and carries forward the form of the leaf that preceded it. The transition from one form to the next consists of a stem-internode in which the one form disappears and the following one emerges. There exists, therefore, a coherence in the transformation of forms through the leaf sequence that conceals itself from sense-perception. The key to recognizing this hidden transition is the thinking beholding that schools itself upon the changing of forms.
