It is Manfred Klett's deliberate will that this book be published and issued at the Goetheanum. The Section for Agriculture and the Verlag am Goetheanum have gladly complied with this wish. The Section for Agriculture is, as one of eleven sections, an integral part of the Free University for Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum. This university strives to work out of Anthroposophy. At present it understands itself in particular as wanting to articulate itself within contemporary events, in order to contribute to the great challenges of the present. In every field of specialization the question is this: how can the cognition of the human being as *Anthropos*, amid all the complexity of modern technology, provide orientation for the future? And in every field of work the question is also this: how can the people who work concretely — in agriculture, for example — cultivate a research-minded disposition?
