The motive to farm biodynamically lives — more or less clearly, and bound up with destiny — in every individual. How can this individual impulse not only become more conscious, but beyond that raise itself to the striving-goal of the whole community? Neither the individual nor the community may rest content with having once grasped that striving-goal. It requires continual cultivation through the study of anthroposophical spiritual science. Its research-contents, set in motion through mutual conversation, kindle thoughts and feelings that light the way ahead on the path to be walked together. A weekly study circle of this kind — when it truly succeeds — has a twofold enlivening effect: on the one hand, the inner working-flow of the farm coordinates itself, rightly in space and time, as if of its own accord; on the other, the community moves, in such an hour lifted out of daily life, thoughts that are mirrored in the bearer of the motive — that is, in the consciousness of each individual. Thoughts won in this way from shared spiritual-cognitive work enter into relationship with the observations and will-experiences made daily in the work itself. The two polar ends of the field of tension named above move toward one another — or, in fortunate moments, even partially merge.
