The present book wishes to point toward the inner and outer steps of this path, as they present themselves to one who seeks to walk them out of the insights of anthroposophical spiritual science in biodynamic farming. On this path one always experiences oneself as standing at the beginning. The ideas won from spiritual science are the guiding star of daily work; what can be accomplished is piecework within a development whose fruitfulness only the creative force of these ideas can disclose — and therewith their truth. It is in idea-led work alone that the source of the experience of truth lies. One becomes conscious thereby of the fact that the strivings of biodynamic farming are not a time-bound alternative — like others — to chemical-technical agriculture, but connect, in terms of the history of consciousness, to a red thread that winds in unceasing metamorphosis through the history of the pre-Christian high cultures and through the ages following the Turning Point of Time, right down to the present day. When one becomes conscious of this, the idea of development comes alive. One's own ideal fills itself with the certainty of cognition; one feels oneself, as a becoming being, placed within a task that impels one to take up this red thread and knit forward along it into the future — in consciously practised overcoming of the emancipation-gap between the human being and the world, spoken of at the outset.
