The winter cover crops — sown in late summer as rape (*Brassica napus*), in early autumn as a mixture — cover the soil from late autumn through the winter, root deeply, develop in the shortest time in spring a large fodder mass, and leave behind in the soil, as an outstanding preceding crop, an abundantly rich root mass.
